Good Morning Year 2! Happy Friday! Before we go any further, I have a VERY exciting announcement.......... drumroll please......

TODAY IS BRIGITTE'S BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR WONDERFUL BRIGITTE!

Everyone at Crampton hopes you have the most magical day Brigitte and we are sending all of our birthday love.

Well done for another wonderful week of learning. Although it has been different you have all worked very hard and I am so very proud of you. Don't forget to sign the register below!

Next week is the Easter break. As things are a different at the moment, I will still be updating the class page throughout the week. I love talking to all of you and I would be very sad to say goodbye for two weeks. I won’t be putting daily Maths, English and Reading up, but I will have a weekly project theme and will have daily activities for you. If you would like to take part in the daily activity then please do. However, don’t panic if you are busy on that day! They are suggestions and ideas. If you would like to send me a message to say hello or show me the work you have done please, please do! I love receiving your messages.

Celebration Assembly

As it is Friday that means it is time for our Celebration Assembly with a twist. We are going to celebrate the week that has passed and thank the people we live with for the things they’ve done for us, big or small.

Today you’re going to be awarding the certificates to people in your family who have helped you this week. Who has made you smile? Who has shown kindness? Do you have a sibling who has tried hard in their learning?

Attached is a PDF with examples of what your certificates could look like - but be as creative as you like. Remember to make your message thoughtful. Don’t forget to give the winners a big clap and let them sit on a special chair!

This week I would like to give a certificate to all of the parents and carers. You have worked incredibly hard with your children and have sent me such lovely messages and learning.  You are all honorary Crampton teachers! Thank you very much to Miss Hoyle who nominated me for one this week. Oliver and I really appreciated it.

Maths

Today we will be revising our 2  times table. Your online lesson can be found here. Complete your daily MyMaths activity and the attached worksheet. If you cannot print the worksheet then you can record your answers in your exercise book.

English

In English today I would like you to write a book review about Aisha the Superhero princess (see attached)

Remember to include:

Why you liked it or didn’t like it

Your favourite part

Questions you still have about the story

What you think happens after it is finished

Any other books it reminds you of

Reading

Today will be our last day with our Reading text Don’t Hog the Hedge. I hope you have enjoyed it! Use the entire story to help you answer the questions and record them in your exercise book.

How does the story start?

 Which character is introduced first?

Who came to Hattie’s hedge first?

Who came to Hattie’s hedge next?

On which page does Hattie’s prickly mood start to change?

How is Hattie’s behaviour different from p.13 onwards?

Were you surprised by the ending? Is it what you expected?

Can you think of any other characters who change during the story?

Cool thing

As you probably know there are two things I really love – penguins and SPACE! Yesterday, I couldn’t stop watching this and I thought you would like it too. Explore the real life surface of Mars! NASA sent a robot named Rover to Mars and this shows some of the things Rover saw. It is really cool!  Enjoy the video and then draw and write and about what you would do if you were a space explorer.

Where would you go?

How would you get there?

What would your space suit look like?

Who might you meet?

What would the planet be like that you discover?

Have a great weekend.

Love,

Miss Stokes

Reading

In Reading we are continuing our book Don’t Hog the Hedge. Today I would like you to read up to the end of the story.

In your own words, can you describe Hattie at the beginning and at the end of the story?

Can you think of an alternative title for the story? Why have you chosen that?

PSHE

It is important to reflect and pay attention to our emotions. We call this being mindful. Watch this mindfulness video and quietly follow the instructions. Remember it is important to concentrate and stay silent. Grown ups at home may also want to do this with you so they can enjoy being silent too!

Have a great day.

Love,

Miss Stokes

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Good Morning Year 2. Happy Tuesday! I hope you are having a wonderful week so far. I have had some lovely emails from some of you and they really have warmed my heart. I feel very lucky that I am able to teach such mature, kind and thoughtful children. I don't think any other teacher in the world has a class as exceptional (look it up!) as mine. I have talked to Mrs Hallums and she has asked me to send lots of love to you all. She misses you very much and can't wait to see you again. If you have a message for her let me know and I will pass it along.

Maths

We are continuing to learn about Shape. Your daily lesson can be found here. Complete your daily MyMaths activity and the task below.

Today I would like you to look around your home and write in your exercise book all of the different 2D and 3D objects that you can see and what shapes they are.  Bonus points if you are able to describe the shape using the mathematical language from your MyMaths lesson.

English

In English we are continuing to look at Aisha the Superhero Princess (see attached).

Today you are going to write instructions for somebody who wants to become a superhero. Think about the items they will need e.g. cape, superhero outfit, mask. Also think about the qualities they need as a person e.g. brave, likes adventure. How will they stop crimes from happening? Write your instructions down in your exercise book. You can also draw pictures next to each instruction if you would like to.

Reading

In Reading we are continuing our book Don’t Hog the Hedge (see attached). Today I would like you to read up to page 19.

Here are your star words which will help you read the story:

Avoid

Avoid means to keep away from

Settled

Settled means to stop moving or to become calm

Cramped

Cramped means there is not a lot of space

Answer the following questions in your exercise book:

p. 15 Can you find an example of alliteration on this page? Remember alliteration means when the same sound or letter is used at the beginning of more than one word in a sentence e.g. Elephants eat enormous Easter eggs.

p. 16 Which words has the author used to show that Hattie really doesn’t mind sharing her hedge?

p. 17 The author calls the animals ‘a squashed-up bunch’. Can you find some other words that tell you it is very squashed in the hedge?

p. 18 Which word tells us that Billy is upset?

Weekly Art

This week I would like you to make a very special animal drawing using your hand. If you draw around your hand in different positions you can use it to help you create animal drawings.

Watch this youtube video to help you create some fantastic animal cartoons. If you would like to send me some that you have made you can email me here: Year2@crampton.southwark.sch.uk I would love to see what you come up with!

Have a great day

English

In English we are continuing to look at Aisha the Superhero Princess (see attached).  Today we are going to use our story plans (that you made on Friday) to write our own amazing story! Make sure you use each box of the story mountain to write each section of your story. Add lots of detail so it is an exciting story to read.

Writing checklist:

Commas in a list

Conjunctions (e.g. as, because, but, so, when, otherwise)

Adverbs that end in ‘ly’ (e.g.  quickly, slowly, quietly)

Reading

In Reading we are continuing our book Don’t Hog the Hedge (see attached). Last week we read up to page 11. Today I would like you to read up to page 14.

Your star word today is 'damp'.

Damp means when something is a little bit wet.

When you have read up to page 14 please complete the sheet attached. Your job is to finish the speech or thought bubbles for the characters. Don’t worry if you cannot print the sheet, you can record the answers in your exercise book.

Parent note: The second page of the document has example answers.

Weekly Learning Journey

Imagine you are Paddington Bear and you are visiting the British Isles! If you were Paddington and you had a stopover in our local area (on the way to Kings Cross Station), what would you write in your diary for that day? Where would you go? What would you see and do? Think about your favourite places to go and eat/play! Write your diary entry in your exercise book. This can be done throughout the week.

Easter Bonnet Competition

As it is the final week before Easter, this week we are asking you all to create your Easter bonnets for the competition! This year you obviously can’t go out to the shops so we want to see you be creative with what you already have at home. If you don’t have the resources you would like, you can alternatively submit a drawn and labelled design of the bonnet you would have created.

Please send photos of your completed bonnet or design to year2@crampton.southwark.sch.uk

Winners will be chosen at the end of the week and results announced on the website!

Have a great day.

Love,

Miss Stokes
