Cycle Training with Cycle Confident

During the academic year, children in years 3, 4 and 5 have the opportunity of free cycle training; there is usually two sessions a year.

  • Level 1: Years 3 & 4
  • Level 2: Year 5

Children are trained to ride on the road by two cycle instructors following the National Training Scheme 'Bikeability'; the course is run by 'Cycle Confident'.

Children should be confident cyclists!

Level 1

Level One is a two day after school session from 3.15pm to 5pm, both lessons are taught in the playground. It is important that children attend the two sessions; If your child misses one session, unless under special circumstances, the instructors will not allow your to continue as each lesson builds upon the last.

Level 2

Level Two is a five day after school session from 3.15pm to 5pm. The first lesson is taught in the playground to assess the children's confidence and bike-ability and all bikes are checked for there road worthiness. Sessions two to five start in the school playground where the group is then taken out onto local streets. It is important that children attend all five sessions; If your child misses one session, unless under special circumstances, the instructors will not allow your child to continue as each lesson builds upon the last.

Each child must:

  • Bring their own bike to school with a lock
  • A cycle helmet
  • Gloves and Coat (for cooler weather)

The school has four bicycles and three cycle helmets which can be borrowed, however it is better if they have their own. Please speak to main reception as soon as you sign up for your child if you would like to borrow a bicycle or cycle helmet.

The instructors will make sure your bike is road worthy, they can mend punctures and tighten brakes, they do not have other spare parts.
