Today Year 1 had a wonderful day sorting,planning,testing and evaluating different materials to make their own boat. They classified materials according to their properties, looked at objects that can and can't float. Planned their own boat, created boats using the materials and tested them on the water.
Even though some of the boats capsized the children were so pleased with their final products!
Today Year 1 celebrated World Book Day. They had a wonderful day full of excitement and joy, sharing their favourite stories and completing activities! Their costumes were AMAZING!
For our learning journey topic 'On The Farm' year 1 have been exploring jobs on the farm from the past and present. Today the children had a first hand experience of churning their own butter and tasting it. They thought it was delicious!
Today Year 1 went to the Science Museum. First, they went to see the space exhibition and had a look at the gigantic planet Earth and the astronaut
Next, they visited 'The Garden' which is an exciting interactive space which allowed them to explore 4 main areas - construction, water, light and sound. While playing, they found out about floating and sinking, shadows and reflections and they even got to construct their own buildings from big Lego. This allowed them to develop the scientific skills of observing, predicting, testing and drawing conclusions. Some of the children even created their own puppet show!
After lunch they went to explore ' The Secret Life Of The Home' which showcased objects form the late 19th and 20th century such as; cooking utensils, vacuum cleaners and CD players.
Year 1 have been learning about the Artist Henri Matisse. During art lessons the children have begun to work on their own collages.
